Amenities

Dell Cottage is surrounded by a wealth of local amenities, some of which are described here:

Bantry House

Bantry House

Overlooking scenic Bantry Bay, the Bantry House & Gardens offers a spectacular view of the sea and the Cork and Kerry mountains beyond. Enjoy a relaxing walk amid the gardens and grounds, which are a wonderful mix of formal and informal.

Glengarriff

Glengarriff

The name comes from "An Gleann Garbh" - the rugged glen - which is derived from the rugged beauty of the mountains and wooded valleys surrounding the village.

Magnificent views of the Caha Mountains and the bulk of Sugarloaf can be seen from the numerous viewpoints along the roads which hug the coastline or wind along the steep sided valleys.

Italian Gardens

Italian Gardens

The Italian Gardens are located adjacent to Bantry House. There are several small laid out sections of colourful flowers and herbs.
In the centre of the garden is an ornate pool and fountain decorated in Classical Grotesque style thought to have been inspired by the Boboli Gardens in Florence.
This garden was designed in the early 1850's by the 2nd Earl of Bantry. In peak blooming months the huge numbers of supported wisteria that circle the fountain lend a highly dramatic effect to the whole layout of the garden.

Glengarriff Golf Club

This is truly a club with a view! Glengarriff's nine holes are in one of the loveliest settings in Ireland, with scenic views abounding - the one from the fifth tee is exceptionally beautiful.
The grassy lane between the second and third holes is part of the historic ancient road between Adrigole and Bantry. This road also comes up by the trees which run across the course near the eight and ninth holes. The Clubhouse was opened in 1989 by the Club's Honorary President, Dr Maureen O'Hara-Blair, the famous filmstar. Visitors are always welcome, and generally may play all day. Clubs are available for hire.

Garnish Island

is located nearby in the sheltered harbour of Glengarriff in Bantry Bay.It is a small island of 15 hectares (37 acres) known to horticulturists and lovers of trees and shrubs all around the world as an island garden of rare beauty. The island is open to visitors each day from 1st March to 31st October.
